Few days: The risk of an amniocentesis such as ruptured membranes or infection would show up within a few days of the amniocentesis.

3 days: In general, most recommend no strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 72 hours after this procedure. Each patient should ask their own doctor recommendations for their specific situation.

48 hours: Most perinatologists recommend strict bedrest for 24 hours after an amniocentesis. Another 24 hours of routine, sedentary activity before resuming moderate or extreme exercise would be prudent.

72 hours: After an amnio, it is best to wait about 3 days before resuming strenuous exercise. The contractions and movement that are generated by exercise could be enough to interfere with the closure of the hole that is made in the bag of waters at the time of the procedure. Your bag could break which can result in the loss of your pregnancy.

24-48 hours: Generally, mild activities can be resumed within 24-48 hours of the amniocentesis as long as there is no discomfort.

1 week: The needle stick is tiny and theoretically should heal sooner than 1 week, but if it is slow to heal and continues to be a weak spot, exercise like power walking or high impact activity could cause it to open up again. The consequences of a leaking from the amniotic fluid are very serious, possibly even causing loss of the pregnancy. It is simply not worth the risk to resume activity any sooner.
