A member asked:

Why is alternative medicine called "alternative"? where did that come from?

Sleight of mouth: Evidence-based medicine had withstood the toughest testing possible. Complementary medicine is labor-intensive and does not pretend to cure but often helps. Nowadays an "alternative" practitioner is offering something that is almost certainly worthless and darkly suggesting that mainstream medicine is hiding secret cures for evil purposes. They talk love and prey on desperation. I'd avoid them.
