NO: Ultrasound is not used to detect colon cancer. Colon cancer screening is done with "fecal occult blood tests" - checking to see if there's blood in the stool, usually part of a physical exam. Colonoscopy is recommended every 10 years in all people over 50 - earlier and more frequently if there is family history, other risk factors or worrisome clinical signs such as passing blood in the stool.
