Postop ileus: 7 days after colon surgery you most probably have a postop ileus. That is where the colon peristalsis has not returned trapping gas. Alot of issues postop contribute to this..Amount of anesthesia, narcotic pain meds and immobility. Staying on liquids/low residue diet and using daily non-magnesium) laxatives to wait out the process are the usual measure, but all should eventually come around.

Call your surgeon: You should call your surgeon to inform them of your concerns ; ask your surgeon for treatment recommendations. I agree with dr. Cloud that an ileus is possible. Stop the narcotic pain medications ; call your surgeon.
