Kindness: Your friend may have polycythemia vera (pv) that may require him to get his blood drawn periodically as a therapy, but I am not sure if the blood bank would be able to use it for others (only himself as a donor for himself). He may simply be kind and give blood every 6 months to help others in need, thus making himself feel better.
