Usually patients are placed on a liquid diet for the first 24 hours afterwards, for example broths, shakes, and gatorade. For the following week after that, the patient is usually placed on a soft diet. You should avoid hard solid foods which could scratch or irritate the lower esophagus. Your gastroenterologist should give you detailed instructions on what kind of foods are safe to eat after the procedure.
