Checked out: No, it is extremely unlikely that she will "hurt herself" coughing, but I am extremely concerned about such a severe cough in a 3 week old. That is never normal, and she needs to be seen by her pediatrician tomorrow. Make sure you tell doc about anything that may have been present during your pregnancy (ie, any infections, travel). Also include history of who she's been around since birth.
