Disclaimer

my 1 year old son has a cough that started yesterday but now has progressed to a cough that sounds like he is coughing from his lungs and hurts.

Common plight: Kids that age are expected to have 5-7 upper respiratory infections /yr. Most are viral & self heal. Comfort measures are helpful. Cough medicines are of no value at that age. There is no need for specific treatments or antibiotics unless a doctor finds an additional issue.
