Water retention: If you are on a medicine that causes you to retain water, speak to the physician (p) who ordered about ways to deal with water retention caused by it. Sometimes you can, others you cannot. Ask your p for advice on the drug's water retention in your case. Good luck.

No: The definition of a diuretic is something that increases urine output. The main component of urine is water. Although increases in water intake will make you urinate more, it won't change your fluid (water) balance. In other words, water won't help you with water retention. In general, trying to alter your water balance without the direction of a physician has risks and is hard to recommend.
