Type 1 Diabetes...: In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas makes little to no Insulin and patients must take Insulin by injection to control their blood sugar. Without taking this insulin, a life-threatening situation, called diabetic ketoacidosis, ensues and the person can die without intervention.

Type 1 Diabetes: In type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system destroys the pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin. That's why these patients have to inject themselves with insulin.

Not adequately: In type 1 autoimmune destruction the beta cells of the pancrease (pancrelipase) leading to absolute Insulin deficiency. Hence requiring exogenous Insulin for the body to utilize glucose for energy. Without Insulin the body will burn fat leading to dka.
