I was with an orthoped this week and he advised convservative therapy (no operation).are there any risks with this approach (instability in future).

Conservative: It depends. Your doctor knows your case the best. He or she likely feels that conservative treatment may yield the best results for now. For example, a person with back pain and a herniated disc often benefits from anti-inflammatory medicine and physical therapy-- this is usually tried before surgery. Doctors will often try a less risky therapy before a more risky therapy.
