Nighttime-only: Based on clinical trials, the joint stabilization appliance is the most effective appliance for TMJ arthralgia and masticatory myalgia. A full coverage stabilization appliance fabricated in hard acrylic resin is most commonly used. The splint is recommended for the nighttime-only use.

Tmj: In general no, however given your 2 arthroscopies i would ask my treating dentist or surgeon to double check as i cannot see your occlusion nor do an examination. Perhaps you could wear it less ie only at night or only during the day? So ask your dentist or surgeon.

Continuity of care: It sounds like you may have gotten separated from your treating dentist who gave you the decompression splint. Reconnect with them to get a meaningful answer to your question. This requires a very specific understanding of your situation and is not a good thing to try to figure out over the internet. If they are unavailable, go to anothertmj-focused dentist to explore your options.

Monitor: Long-term splint therapy can cause changes in occlusion, tooth alignment, jaw joint function. Your status needs to be monitored regularly. If changes were induced by the splint therapy, intervention by an orthodontic specialist may be warranted.
