Several!: If all four wisdom teeth were removed at the same time, there can be quite a lot of swelling. Don't expect the face to look completely normal within the first week. At first, ice packs applied to both sides of the face may help with pain as well as swelling. Encourage the patient to sleep with several pillows to elevate the head at all times. The swelling will get better within a week or so.

Varies: Swelling generally reaches its peak 48 hours after the surgery and then gradually decreases. You should use ice immediately following surgery for the first 24 hours and then after 24 hours start gently rinsing with warm salt water and use moist heat on the outside of your face to help the swelling resolve.
