Maybe something else: You want to make sure that his is not shingles. Anytime i hear "stinging" i get concerned. Also, i would try over the counter cortisone as well.

Dermatitis: Most likely you have a dermatitis. Start with a thick moisturizer like cereve cream and 1%hydrocortisone cream. If it does not improve, see a dermtologist.
