Psychiatry training: In the us, to become a psychiatrist takes several steps. First, you must go to college for 4 years. You apply for medical school while in college, then medical school is 4 more years. While in medical school, you apply for a psychiatry residency, then the residency is 4 years. After that, you are a psychiatrist. There are also schools that combine undergraduate and medical school into 6 years.
