A member asked:

Is it okay that my ferritin level is 5, and my iron saturation is 2? i don't have any trouble absorbing iron, but nothing seems to improve it, either

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gluten enteropathy: You may need evaluation for celiac disease (wheat, rye or barley allergy) which commonly results in iron deficiency. Underlying blood loss should be ruled out, but celiac disease (gluten enteropathy) hides and might be the cause of your failure to utilize the iron you present to yourself. Cognitive impairment may be due to vitamin B12 deficiency which is also common in gluten enteropathy.
