Not in 1st trimester: Flagyl is safe in pregnancy except for the 1st trimester (1-14 weeks) when there is a slight risk to the pregnancy. Speak to your doctor, you might be able to switch to a vaginal gel (metronidazole gel) instead of the oral form. However, bacterial vaginosis also causes an increased risk of miscarriage, so make sure this is treated.

Yes: That is a safe and effective medication. Bv is associated with preterm labor and preterm delivery so it is important to treat your condition. You should be comfortable listening to and trusting your doctor.
