Proper diagnosis: An ear ache is not necessarily arising from the ear structures. If your hearing has not changed as a result of the ache and there is no drainage, the single most common cause of an ear ache (otalgia) in the absence of ear disease, is pain arising from the dental apparatus. Tmd, masticatory muscle spasm or true dental disease are entities that need to be ruled out. Heat and tylenol (acetaminophen) for relief.
