Any time you want: The only reason to have surgery is to reduce pain. When you have had enough of the pain, then it is time. It is always your choice.

Get a proper exam: While pain is a significant factor in determining whether you should have surgery it is important to realize that all these deformities are progressive and they become more difficult to fix with time. If you're having symptoms such as difficult in wearing shoes you should be evaluated by a competent surgeon and make a determination when the time is right.
