Suggestions: A couple suggestions include rest, heat, cold, otc meds for pain, and gentle manipulation. If this does not work in a week or two i would suggest seeing a dentist with training in diagnosing and treating tmd. Diagnosis is the key to proper treatment and many dentists only treat without a diagnosis.

Don't treat at home!: Are you sure your jaw is dislocated and not broken? With out an evaluation by a doctor or oral surgeon you have no real way of knowing. Waiting could be the difference between developing a permanent problem and proper healing!

Home treatment??: There is home treatment for a cold. There is home treatment for an ingrown toenail. There is home treatment for a skinned knee. There is not home treatment for a dislocated jaw. It will need professional treatment to reduce the dislocation followed by pain management and possible follow up physical therapy. No home treatment will relocate the jaw.

Prevention : Dislocation, describes a condition in which the patient cannot close his/her mouth after wide opening without a specific manipulative maneuver. Preventive treatment involves training the patient to restrict maximum opening range to avoid a recurrence. Most patients can minimize dislocation by learning to limit mouth opening. If the condition persists, surgical intervention may be necessary.
