First reduction: Dislocating your knee not just you patella implies injuring 2 to 3 major ligaments in your knee. Trying casting often leads to stiffness. If old and recurrent instability you could try a brace but may need to reconstruct he torn ligaments.

Dislocated knee: A dislocated knee usually refers to a complete or near complete separation of the tibia relative to the femur (thigh bone). Depending on the location of the tibia dictates ligament and soft tissue injury. Typically an x ray is performed following a careful neurovascular assessment of the limb. The peroneal nerve should be checked along with the distal pulses at the level of the foot.
