Several things: Biliary atresia is a congenital abnormality of formation of biliary ductal system seen in neonates and not adults. Common bile duct can be obstructed by biliary stone. Sometimes partial obstructions of duct can be related to stenosis caused by inflammation or dyskinesia of sphincter of oddi, where duct enters duodenum. Congenital problems such as choledochal cyst affects common bile duct in adults.

Bad gallbladder: You could have a bad gallbladder. Biliary atresia is a very challenging diagnosis. A bad gallbladder is a fixable problem with surgery and low risk for any long term problems. Okay to ask your doc for more info on the diagnostic hida scan and referral to general surgery to discuss surgical removal. Be well and good luck.
