To drain the GB: Sometimes the gallbladder is very swollen and tense. This makes it hard to grasp, hold, and retract. Sometimes we have to drain the bile out of the gallbladder so we can grasp hold of it with the instruments. A long needle is inserted through on of the trocars and the bile is aspirated into a syringe.
