Imaging: A cholecystostomy is not a routine part of the laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure. In some cases, this may be done to place a catheter for cholangiogram (visualize bile ducts with contrast). It may also be done to extract a particularly large stone or otherwise assist the surgeon in removal of the gallbladder itself.
