A member asked:

My grandson born sept 8 was diagnosed with g6pd. is there either a forum for this deficiency? is there a simple list of both substances to avoid and substances the are safe? thank you for your time?

Fava bean, medicines: The main foods to avoid are fava bean, and bitter melon which contains the same compound .Also , since this belongs to the legume family , it might be safer to avoid peanuts , peas and lentils , although this has not been proven . The pediatrician will often provide a handout to list chemicals to avoid ,like mothballs ( naphthalene) , medicines like antimalarials ,and some Chinese herbals.
