A member asked:

I'm 25 years old and had sex 5 dpo. i took emergency con. 12 hours after. my period is 3 days late. is this cause for concern?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Having to use emergency contraception is always a cause for concern. It means that something unplanned happened, or that planning was possible but not done. In either case, there is enough concern to try to figure out a way to never need emergency contraception again. Fortunately, the medication works very well when taken on the first day.
