Period late: Curent pregnancy tests will be positive within 7 days of becoming pregnant. If you have not had intercourse since then your are not pregnant. Your period could easily be delayed by the emotional stress of being pregnant. Do yourself a favor - get on a good reliable contraceptive - pills, shots or IUD.

Home preg tests: "17 DPO" (days past ovulation?) is not quite enough time for a home pregnancy test to be accurate, since if pregnancy did occur on or about your ovulation, implantation would not occur until 4-6 days later, and generation of HCG levels (to detect pregnancy) would be low enough to not show positive sometimes. Wait another week and get a serum (blood) test for HCG, which is very accurate.
