It's quite rare: Yes -there are, primarily due to abnormal electrical activity (heart arrhythmias) that can occur suddenly and may be related to anatomical factors (cardiomyoopathy). It is very infrequent in young age though.

Why do you ask?: There are a family of heart diseases that can cause sudden death without either chest pain or shortness or breath / loss of exercise tolerance. In the channelopathies, though, the ekg is usually abnormal in life which provides a warning. A patch of myocarditis is a relatively common finding in the sudden death of a young person without symptoms / signs, and there are several other possibilities.
