A member asked:

Is there difference between symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) and advair for treatment of asthma? how long before you get full effects of symbicort (budesonide and formoterol)?

Similar: They both contain a long-acting bronchodilator (laba) and an inhaled steroid. The major difference is the laba in symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) works in 10-15 minutes and in advair about 45 minutes. The Advair Diskus is a powder inhaler which requires deep inspiration and symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) a mdi which requires slow inspiration. The full effects on both occur in 2-3 weeks.
