Using dental floss: There are many brands and types and they all work well if you use them properly. Each individual has different preferences and needs. I would go with what your dentist advised.

Good: It cannot hurt to try thicker floss, called tape. As long as you can get in between your teeth without discomfort, it can be a great aid in your oral hygiene. Very efficient. Give it a try.
