Lump in lid: When you get a stye, the body activates a defense, creating inflammation of the lid. In most cases the battle is won and all clears up. But in a few cases, the body almost wins but protects itself by sealing off the infection with a wall which is a cystic structure called a chalazion. These are benign, can last along time and can be removed if too big.
