A protrusion : Of bone. It can occur on the bottom of the heel pr the back of the heel. It often occurs where there is a soft tissue attachment. The only way to eliminate the spur itself is to have it surgically removed. Thought, this is not always necessary. If you remove the pain associated with it, then you don't need to remove the spur. Stretching, antiinflammatories, orthotics all play a role.
