Related: A surgical extraction is when a dental extraction involves contouring of bone and/or sectioning of the tooth, and/or 'flapping' back of the dental tissue in order to access pieces of the tooth. Alveoplasty refers to contouring of the bone surrounding the tooth being extracted and also around the adjacent teeth. Therefore often times alveoplasty one component of the 'surgical extraction' process.
