A 50-year-old member asked:

can you tell me about getting back into a poor health situation. wondered is pollution a big factor in apnea?

Dr. Hanul Bhandari
Sleep Medicine 13 years experience
See below: Sleep apnea can be due to many factors, including large neck size, high blood pressure, diabetes, nasal obstruction/congestion, smoking, alcohol use, and age. Of course, the environment plays some role in it by compounding nasal congestion. So it is not a "big" factor, but may play some role. Hope that answers your question!

Is it normal that my child arches her back and thrusts backward when something's upset her?

Yes: This is a form of temper tantrum and is best ignored after making sure your child is not in a position to hurt herself. Do not try to appease her by giving her what she wants or trying to not upset her. She is smart and will learn to manipulate you if allowed.

Im really into my sports. How long before I can get back to exercising after surgery?

Dr. James Eitner

Depends: It depends on the surgery and the type of exercise, but generally, once the surgical site is healed and any muscle or joint issues have been rehabilitated, you can return to full exercise. Talk with your surgeon for more specifics. Some types of exercise, not involving the surgical site, can often be started right away. Eg. Cv conditioning can be maintained with a hand bike after knee surgery.

Is a magnetic mattress compatible with a breathing machine for apnea?

Dr. Jeffrey Jarvis

Don't see why not: I can't imagine the magnetic aspect of your mattress would interfere with the operation of your CPAP machine. Shouldn't be a problem.
