No: A patch over one eye is commonly used to eliminate the handicapping doubling of vision in diplopia. Depending upon the cause of the diplopia, there may be spontaneous improvement while wearing the patch, but it is not credited to the patch. Diplopia, if newly present always should have an evaluation by an ophthalmologist as some of the underlying causes are serious.
