Not recommended: There is an absence of evidence that orthodontic treatment can treat or prevent temporomandibular disorders and open bite is not exception. There are no data regarding the effectiveness of orthodontic treatment for TMJ.

Oral surgeon consult: Need to confer with an oral surgeon in addition to an orthodontist. Many times, orthognathic surgery is needed in conjunction with an open bite, dependent on severity. IS the TMJ issues, resultant of the open bite? Have the dentist make sure all is ok dentally prior to the inception of treatment.
