Pituitary disease: The hypothalamus and pituitary work together to regulate many functions in the body, including hormonal regulation. Diseases can causes hormone deficiency or excess. Some of the hormones regulated are the thyroid, growth hormone, prolactin, (breastfeeding hormone) testosterone or estrogen, and cortisol.
