Nerve tracts: There are a set of nerve tracts from the hypothalamus that release hormones into the pituitary blood supply. The hormones are called "releasing hormones", and they cause the pituitary to release hormone. Eg. Hypothalamic TRH (thyrotropin releasing hormone) causes the pituitary to release TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
