A member asked:

What is the best way to help a type ii diabetic that is already taking basal insulin and still can't control his a1c?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mealtime insulin: A few suggestions: 1. Make sure diet is perfect and consistent. See dietician if needed 2. Work with your md to titrate up your basal insulin 3. You can take a short acting Insulin such as NovoLog or humulog at the time of meals to keep the sugar from skyrocketing after meals- this can sometimes be the cause of a stubborn a1c. 4. Take metformin too if medically safe and not already on it.
