I am a t2 diabetic taking insulin. a1c 6.2; 55 yrs old. what does a fasting c-peptide result of 3.4 indicate? am i making normal levels of insulin?

Yes: We need to see the blood sugar level at the time the c-peptide of 3.1 was drawn but in general, this is a good and adequate level. This means that your body is still producing and releasing its own insulin. It means that you are a type 2 diabetic and not close to being a type 1 yet if ever.
