Different bones: There are a number of different types of bones and many do not have "growth plates" as we think of them in long bones in the arms and legs.Growth plate injuries can be particularly serious in growing children which is why as a pediatrician i feel strongly that kids should not be playing football and other high contact sports(also brain trauma).
