However, many causes: Perhaps most frequent is repetitive use of keyboarding, and also any activity requiring repetitive flexion/extension motions of wrists. Just to be complete, occasional patients with rheumatological conditions can get carpal tunnel, so in some cases, arthritis can cause cts.

I do not: Think so. It is a compression of the nerve in the wrist. Symptoms include pain, tingling, numbness. People usually do the surgery because the symptoms are so annoying they want it fixed. Arthritis would be a bone related problem.
