Just got prescribed allopurinol. side effects list worries me. in your experience how often do bad side effects occur? thanks!

Rarely: Allopurinol has been available for almost 50 years and has a very low risk of side effects. The major risks are allergic rashes or liver inflammation. Starting the med at a low dose and gradually increasing the dose makes any side effect very unlikely.

There are multiple: Serious and common side effects as there are with almost every prescriptive medication, however in practice if the medication interactions and contraindicating medical problems such as kidney disease are avoided the side effects have not been prevalent enough to avoid using.
