Yes: For patients whose pain is not controlled by conservative means there is surgery for the thumb joints. It's called arthroplasty. It usually is dome outpatient and it improves pain although long term results do not show that strength or mobilty improves. Beware of artficial joints - there are no long term studies showing if they last and if they cause more problems down the road.
