A member asked:

If i take a laxative right after a meal, will it go straight through so i don't absorb it?

No: There are a variety of laxatives that work in different ways, but in general taking a laxative with food won't stop it from working. (btw, not every medication for constipation needs to be absorbed in order for it to work). In general it's a good idea to try not to take laxatives on a frequent/regular basis; instead try to achieve regular bm's through a high fiber, high water diet.
