A doctor has provided 1 answer

Stool colors: Light brown, tan colored or yellowish stools are usually soft and seen with rapid transit of intestinal contents into the colon preventing normal pigmentation of feces. Black stool occurs with bleeding high up in the gi tract such as stomach or duodenum. They also occur with the taking of iron supplements and peptobismol. You may have irritable bowel syndrome; consult a gastroenterologist.
