Yes: The TSH may not become abnormal until the disease has progressed for some time. There are other tests to be run such as a free T4 free t3 (liothyronine) anti mitochondrial antibody. In general you don't treat when the TSH is normal but not always. When you have a big question and you are not confident with the answer it is time for a second opinion. It is your life.
