Good question: That's such a good question, and the answer is complicated. In my experience, women who had a lot of deliveries oftentimes the cervix will be the same for weeks on end and then will change suddenly. That is, labor when it comes causes rapid changes to the cervix. I'm like a woman's first delivery where the change is more methodical.
