Well-balanced!: Consult your physician to be sure that a gym workout is fine, and what kind of limitations, if any, are necessary. A well-balanced diet is important - small amount of fat, larger amount of protein, and mixture of carbohydrates in the form of breads, pasta, and rice for example. Water intake is best - especially before a workout to be sure blood flow is optimal. Work up to a vigorous workout.
