No: Surgery involves risks that are not part of treatment with either radioiodine or antithyroid drugs -- such as bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthetic, hypoparathyroidism, damage to vocal nerves, etc. In addition, it should not be attempted, except in emergency situations, until thyroid level has been normalized with antithyroid drugs. Radioiodine is generally the best and safest treatment.
